Kevin Montgomery Calls with Website Issues

Hey, I received a voice mail from Kevin that I have loaded the photos incorrectly and he is getting a lot of complaints that they can't access the site. I apologize. Kevin requested that I remove all photos. I'm sorry, I thought the site was working fine and I hadn't heard the compliants. Joe Polk of MTBCAST and I met for several hours Monday night and he helped me loading the photos. But, Kevin was very upset and tells me that the server will crash if I don't take off all of the photos. So that is why they are disappearing.

Pictures

Hi Sherry, The 2 pictures of Kevin Hall seemed to cause the problem. Your earlier pictures of the racers at the start were fine. Just want to let you know that your efforts are hugely appreciated. It's wonderful being able to keep up with the racers. Thanks!

Thanks a lot. I needed to

Thanks a lot. I needed to hear that after Kevin's message to me. I've taken all of the pictures off so that I "don't crash the website". Sherry O.

I really enjoyed the pictures that were posted! Thanks Sherry! I can imagine how you feel, but if you're willing to give it a shot I'd like to help you with the pictures if I can, so they get to stay on the site... email would be better for that type stuff though (and my email is included here).

Thanks! I really enjoy reading the updates, too!

Jay, Thanks for the offer.

Jay,

Thanks for the offer. I really appreciate it. Joe Polk met with me on Sunday night and we worked on trying to get the original image link to work on the website for a couple of hours. I thought we had it worked out until I got Kevin's message this am. Oh well.

SO Joe Polk from MTBCast is going to put all of the pictures on his website. He has most of them already and I'm going to send him some more. The link to the galleries are: http://mtbcast.com/images/TD08/start/ and http://mtbcast.com/images/TD08/plesko/ I'm going to send him more pictures and he'll upload.

BTW, Joe from MTBcast has been a life saver for me as I've never worked on a website before. He is a great guy and I really appreciate all he has done. Don't forget to listen to the his commentary and the racer's recordings on www.mtbcast.com.

Big thanks from over here in the United Kingdom.

Sherry,

Just to let you know we are appreciating your efforts too, over here in the UK! Great to see all the transcription of the racer messages. Excellent stuff!

As for the picture issue, I think Kev should take a chill pill, maybe Mat can sprinkle some of those blue ones along the trail up ahead. ;-)

I'll be listening to Joe's webcast from now on as well, I hadn't found his updates yet.

Keep up the good work,

Stijn

"Kevin should take a chill

"Kevin should take a chill pill" - You are way out of line. Kevin put in a lot of time and effort on this website. He was understandably concerned about the site having problems as he is racing and so not available to fix any problems that come up.

Host your photos

You're doing a great job Sherry. I love reading all the posts that you are transcribing and reading what the racers are going through.

It's very common for websites to host their photos on another server using a service. A great service for this is flickr. You can then link to the photo's directly and it won't use up your servers bandwidth. People can print them, order them printed and shipped, etc and on and on... They have tools for folks new to this as well.

Keep up the great work.

flickr photos

Make sure to read the fine print before using photo storage like flickr. Once you post your photos on sites like that, they can become the property of that site. Read the fine print.

Huh?

Where are you getting this? Why confuse Sherry?

It's a prefect solution to the problem she is having. Flickr has copyright Copyright Infringement policies for your photos. They are not the property of flickr.

In fact, I have personally sent emails by two different publishers wanting to use my photos in their materials, one a book and another a website. If my photo's were flickr's property they wouldn't have had to do that.
