Hi this is Alan, I'm in Beaverhead Work Station. It's 10 past 4 on Thurs 2nd. It was hotter than hell out there! We've been sat around, sitting out the heat for the last hour or so. Think we might press on again soon now it's cooled down a little bit.It must've been in the 90's.So we left Pietown after a successful night! Kathy at the Pie-oneer stayed open just for TD racers, so I got pie!! And then stayed at the Toaster House, so my experience of Pietown was much better than expected. I can see why people like it now. Anyway. Talk to you later. Bye!

Erik L. calls from Pie Town, he’s out

Hi this is Erik Lobeck calling in, it’s 3:00 and I have had to abandon the race.  I got stomach flu, giardia or food poisoning yesterday.  Road all afternoon with it to get to a town called Pie Town. And felt progressively weaker and light headed and wrong throughout the day and then started feeling really sick having to pull off the trail allot. And then spent the night in I guess stomach flu agony and most of this morning to. I can’t see myself getting better in the next day or two and I have not been able to put any food in me which for the last 300 miles is pretty much a pre requisite especially since food is pretty widely spaced and it is riding thru the desert. So I have decided to make the wise decision to pullout of the race.  I hate to do it so short of the goal, I was really looking forward to completing those last 300 miles in about 2 days which I think I could have done and gotten in, in my 21, 21 ½ day time frame which would have made me happy but I think it is the smarter decision rather than being stuck in the desert not feeling good with dehydration I still don’t feel very good I am in the car on my way home. There you have it that is why my spot hasn’t moved, Pie town is where it ended. More later when I feel more like talking.

Hello. This is Paul calling from Sargents where we've found a beautiful cabin to stay in and we've got a lovely restaurant to eat in. Its been quite a gruelling day what with one thing and another. I don't know why but I had the blues a bit this morning and I was very tired. I think it was just general fatigue catching up and was very tempted by the idea of stopping in Salida but part of me realised that if I did stop in Salida I would probably have difficulty getting going tomorrow morning. So I kept going with the boys who were very enthusiastic and encouraging. We made it despite a big thunderstorm and rainstorm over Marshall's Pass. Hopefully Del Norte tomorrow and maybe a bit of karaoki in the bar this evening to cheer our spirits. O.K. Bye from me.
