Race Replays to day 9

Racer update about:

A couple more TopoFusion race replays for you. The first is the leaders, starting at day 5 and going to within the last hour.

The second is kind of fun -- a super fast replay of the entire race, all racers. I liked seeing the day / night cycles of all the racers. Although some look like they are moving at night, they just didn't get a point until sometime in the morning, so instead they look like they are moving really slow.

Jeff Kerby pulls the plug in Butte Pt2

Hi, this is Jeff Kerby again, and I just realized that I totally neglected to thank Chauncey Matthews for building the bike creating the custom frame that I rode in the Tour Divide, uh, as usual, I'd never ride anything else, but I would've been totally remissed if I didn't thank him, so, again, thank everybody who helped out-just wished the outcome could've been different. Thanks everybody, bye.

Kurt and Chris are near Pinedale

Hey, Kurt here! Chris and I made it to the Place Cafe, which is, I don't know, what? 25 miles above Pinedale. Today was going really well until we started getting a fierce headwind coming across that high 9,000' plateau below the Wind Rivers which was just gorgeous. But the wind kicked up, and my rear derailleur pulley, the lower pulley, has started to have some problems - seized up, and then basically stopped turning completely, and upon inspection was completely exploded inside. So my bike is now a two-speed. It's working well enough, we got five miles to here, and Dale at A to Z Hardware down in Pinedale is going to hook me up this evening with a new pulley, so hopefully I can keep going. Just got to make it 25 miles down the road, and then we'll be going a little faster again.

Uh, yea, hi, this is Jeff Kerby, I'm calling in from Butte. I was here yesterday. Trudged out for about 9 hours, another downpour again, the weather's just been horrible. Anyway, basically I'm sick, um, I'm going to be dropping out, um, you know, no sympathy, no excuses. Basically did everything I could to stay out there, um, I just want to thank Outdoorsman Bicycle- they've been great with helping me this morning with ah, arrangements to uh, go home. For everybody who had hoped for a different outcome, I really don't know what to say. Uh, that's pretty much it for me, uh, I endured this thing once before, I don't want to do that. If I can't race it, um, I want to go home. And that's pretty much where I'm at. For everybody who believed- thanks. That's it for me. Bye.

Michael Komp: The Flathead Re-Route

Racer update about:

The fourth installment of Michael's early call-ins as we catch up on the early transcriptions.

Eight days into the race, Michael has just finished the Flathead re-route and reports that it was harder and longer than he thought, and extremely wild and remote.  The weather was brutal and after getting thoroughly soaked, he was hopeful for a warm room.  Listen to the call and hear what he got instead...

Go Mike!

Michael Komp: Assailing Richmond Peak

Racer update about:

The third installment from Michael's early calls as we catch up on the transcriptions. When this report was called in he had just crossed Richmond Peak and reports that the ride was spectacular, but particularly treacherous near the ridge.  He's probably still riding alone as he perserveres in his efforts to catch up after getting a late start.

Go Mike!
