Hello everyone, this is Jay and Tracey and we’re sitting here in Wise River in a little café just cefeine-ing up…coffee, hot cocoa, soup, and grilled cheese and such, and we’re going to have to make a push for the next 70 miles down to Grant…we reserved a little place down there, um, so we’re going to push through for a while…a lot of it is on roads so we hope to get in there at decent hour and get some sleep. We definitely had a little bit of a rainy night last night so we’ll get some good rest. But, other than that, things are going great…Fletcher Ridge was pretty incredible…another wet day out there, but, um, we’re doing well. Ok, thanks and we’ll talk to you soon. See ya. -DB

Alan calls from Butte

Racer update about:

Hi this is Alan Goldsmith calling from Butte, Montana. Just re-supplying at the Outdoorsman and the gas station next door. It’s ten 'til one, we’ve just come in from Basin where we had breakfast, and last night we stayed up at Park Lake Campground, which is very beautiful, and closed, so we were the only ones there. Yesterday we came across from Ovando. Tough, but beautiful. And the day before you may have thought I spent the day in bed, but the batteries on my SPOT died. So we went from Big Fork to Ovando over Richmond Peak, which was snowy, but not nearly as snowy as last year, about half as much, and the scary bits weren’t scary. (Big truck just arrived.)
Um, we’re off to try and get to Wise River now. And. Yeah. ‘We’ is John Fettis, who I’ve been pretty much riding with on-and-off all the time, and we linked up with Kevin Dean, nice guy from California, History teacher, we caught up with him yesterday and we’ve been together since. Anyway, it’s a great trip! No worse for being the second time out. Everything I expected, and going a little bit quicker, so all good! Bye!

Hello, this is Trevor Browne.  Just borrowing a cell phone because I can't find any payphones. Everything is going good. We just got to Lincoln, Montana.  Everything is going really well. I don't know why my SPOT's not working.  I've been doing everything you said. And I'm just holding the buttons longer now. Maybe that was the problem before.  So I hope it's working now. I want to say hi to my girlfriend. (?)everyone lots at home  Trails are looking good. It's all pretty dry. Rode 17 hours yesterday at Richmond Peak at got in around 1130.  That was fun. I just wanted to say that everything is fine and when I find a payphone I will try and call friends and family.  OK thanks, bye.

Race Report: Into Day 6

Racer update about:

There has been a lot more drama and bad weather greeting Tour Dividers over the past couple of days.  The biggest development thus far is speculation regarding the future of John Nobile's race, who was a heavy favorite.  On her blog, Jill Homer has used some fairly vague language that makes it difficult to tell if he intends to continue much farther:

Since day 3 I've been traveling with John Nobile, last year's GDR winner who was a contender for this year until his knee went out just north of the border. Now he's touring with me for a few more days. It's been fun to have a traveling companion, especially one who knows the route so well. We've come across four bears on the trail, and he always charges ahead to chase them away, so that's a benefit, too. (link)

If John does scratch, he will be joining Cadet Bryant and Kevin Hall as this year's first race casualties. Read more »

We impressed some people eating our pizzas I guess in Butte... that’s pretty funny but uhh ya it’s great to be out of Bearatory and have the Bearanoia level down a little bit. We don’t have to sleep suspended in the air it’s a pretty nice…so that’s all.

Hey, it’s the Petervary’s callin in…we’re in Butte, its about 11 AM, we’re getting ready to head out of here. Yesterday was a very trying day, it was a lot of passes we climbed…I think about five, and we left our Spot in Lincoln, and when we got to Helena we had to get our cassette and chain replaced because it was worn down already…and so, we had a great day performance-wise, cleaned all of the passes which was really cool…and, that was good times. Then, made it to Helena in about 12 hours and had a 3 hour mechanical there. So, that’s what was goin’ on. We made it into Basin last night about midnight and slept in some dog crap…and then made it into Butte this morning, had some breakfast, we’re at the bike shop now and just gettin’ ready to head out. So, alright, we’ll talk to you soon and…we’ve got another Spot so hopefully that should be up working in a little bit. We’re going to be getting the Love Shack back on track…alright, talk to you later. -DB
