Hey, it's Justin calling in from Helena. Um, it is...what day is it? I'm not sure, but I guess it's Day 5 at night. Last called in Columbia Falls. I was hoping to get a good night's sleep that night--didn't work out. I was trying to wean off of the 1,800 milligrams of Ibuprofen that I have to take every day. But that didn't work out too well--took less pills and I was up all night. So, I didn't sleep well. That next day, I had two big passes. First one we came across a bear cub. Luckily no mom was around. Second one: Richmond Peak was pretty much a nightmare. A big storm had just rolled in. So, super tacky, muddy. Part of it was like this barely-used snowmobile doubletrack/singletrack that was super slow and there were so many mosquitoes it looked like it was raining and you were going so slow. And then hike-a-bike through a mile or so of snow at the top. So, tough day, but made it to Seeley Lake last night five minutes after most things closed in town but they made us a sandwich at the bar. And then did 125 or 130 today and I'm in Helena now. So, hopefully try and go to Wise River tomorrow.

Hi it’s Erik Lobeck calling in from Helena, It’s 9:30 in the evening.  It was a pretty long ride everything went really well.  The day before however it felt like thing really fell apart.  I lost my cycling gloves so I am riding with some socks with the tips cut off, that I modified with my pocketknife. I hope to get new set gloves in butte tomorrow perhaps.  Grizzly bear sightings were way up, yesterday I had to wait 20 min for a situation to clear where I had the mother on one side of the road and the 2 cubs on the other side of the road so that took some time.  Then there was the snow hike where I sort of stretched my left calf muscle which is probably the only part of my body that is not feeling that great and it was pretty much locked up solid today and was really really painful but I toughed it out today. Hopefully with some massage work I can get it into working condition tomorrow, well see, I don’t know, if it doesn’t improve I may have to take a down day cause it was pretty painful and I don’t want to injure myself for the rest of the ride.  anyway that’s it. Thanks

Hey, race fans! Kurt calling here. I'm with Chris and Joe still, we're on the pavement right outside of Butte. Looks like there's some rain between us and Butte, unfortunately. It's evening on Tuesday, I believe, and today's been just a magnificent day. Tons of great little climbs, some big climbs - lots of climbing, it was kind of the theme. But legs are feeling good. What else? Hasn't rained at all yet, that's probably going to change soon. We got some frosty chocolate shakes back in Basin, which rejuvenated everyone's legs, and now we're cruising. Think that's about it for now. Tomorrow's pushing on, and we'll see we end up. But if things continue like this, everyone's golden. Alright, later!

Jamie Thomson is reunited with his Spot. He’s in Lincoln.

Leaders Replay - Days 1-4

Racer update about:

Since previous replay videos have been a little chaotic, this video features only the top 10 racers, according to the tracking system's split chart. This video starts at the beginning of the race and runs until this morning. The sleep/ride patterns, or as Matt Lee likes to say, the circadian rhythms of the riders are quite apparent. You can see how Matt Lee has gained his lead by riding later and earlier most nights.

Apologies for the lower video quality. Vimeo is having technical difficulties today.

If you haven't noticed the split chart, it's been a little buried at the bottom of the main leaderboard map. The chart is filled out automatically as the race rolls on. Try clicking on the columns to sort riders by arrival time.

Hiii this is Jill Homer calling from Lincoln , Montana. John and I got into town about 5:00 pm, Tuesday. We just did a really short easy day today; basically a rest day, trying to gear up for a big push tomorrow so. But it went really well, feeling awesome I think im really getting into shape and feeling like I can maybe start pushing now. It’s been pretty mellow so far and im really having a lot of fun with this. The trail is gorgeous, I really had no idea how beautiful it would be out here but its been a lot of fun. So ya getting up early tomorrow, gonna do ..gonna do a real day tomorrow. So now we’re just enjoying the being in town early, getting good meals…hot tub. Maybe look at the internet to figure out what’s going on in this race. Its funny being in this race and having no idea what’s going on where anybody is, it be kinda fun to know, but it’s also kinda fun not to know. But ya ….talk to ya later bye!

***Hey, this is Rick.  I left Sparwood at 5:00 in the morning.  Spent the night with Paul, Cadet and Bruce.  Left with Bruce in the morning and Paul & Cadet followed.  Got up to Trek Mining on the Corbin Road and Paul had caught up to me.  We got stopped by a train that looked like it wasn't going to move.  We didn't want to make a detour and get disqualified, so, both of use climbed over the train with our bikes.  Cadet caught up with us on Cabin Road.  They both went ahead on Cabin Road.  Once I got onto Wigwam I got caught in a heavy rain storm and got soaking wet.  I caught up to Deanna on the Fixie on Wigam and got into the connector together.  What a bitch of a connector coming out of the river basin!  Man!  Old man, heavy bike, caused my knee to get tweaked.  Deanna was just laughing at me trying to get that bike up that cliff.  Reached Pass at the dark and we both went down the pass in the dark.  Made it to the border about midnight and I got a sandwich and hot chocolate at the bar at the border.  Made it into Eureka at 1am and we camped out on Cadet's motel room floor for the night.  That was a hard 20 hours for that day! Tuesday afternoon. It is 3:00. It is Jp & Tracey. We made it to Helena.  We are sitting here at Taco Del Sol having a fat burrito which is awesome. Props to them. Thank you. We are getting our bikes worked on. A little bit, super dry hub in the rear getting my fork sort of aired up and making sure I take a pumped on the trail.  We lost our spot unit so for people who think we are just sitting there or traveling with someone else, we are not. We are going to try to buy one or get another one along the way or have on sent somewhere. We will work on that ourselves. We don’t know where anyone else is but that is fine we like it like this. We are going to be pushing on into Basin and then onto Butte.  We will talk to you guys later this evening. Ok, great. Have a good day.
