Hi this is Alan calling in from the Sawmill Restaurant, which is firmly closed. On Sunday 7.30 in the morning. Err. Yesterday the Divide kicked my ass!! And it ain't getting any better!! We had to push 4 miles up to Togwotee Mountain Lodge because of the mud on the 'Impassable When Wet' road. It started raining just as we left the Buffalo Valley Cafe, just before the 'Impassable When Wet' road begins. And then. the restaurant there was shut. We ate junk food. Saw the Italians breezing up the road, so they're disqualified. I heard rumours that they were missing the difficult bits. I guess that's roadies for you!! Calls into question all his past achievements I think. I wouldn't sponsor the guy, or his mate. Anyway after Togwotee Mountain Lodge things got worse. The Brooks Lake Road was even worse than last year, took us about 2hrs to go 3 or 4 miles and then they had no room at Brooks Lake Lodge, but luckily they phoned ahead to Lava Mountain Lodge and they looked after us, they stayed open late, that was a life saver, but we left before breakfast hoping to get breakfast here, but this doesn't open until NOON!! Happy Days!! Call you from Pinedale, Bye!

Well done Alan! You sound so

Well done Alan! You sound so upbeat, even in the worst conditions!
Jess likes listening to your call-in's, although when I've played them about 30 times to write it all down she gets a bit bored!! Take care, keep on turning!!

PS. Put a few miles in for Dick!!

The Italians realize the

The Italians realize the mistake and so they turn back and redo the correct section, so they aren't disqualified.
Please, don't open your mouth for nothing.
I think that this competition is only an adventure and insult other racers is only a stupid behaviour.

Hi Alan!!

Hey Alan - it's great to hear from you, I hope you are having a great time out on the Tour Divide! It would be wonderful to see you at the finish line again this year.
Nice job calling out the cheaters - that's too bad that they took the code of ethics so lightly, surely they knew the rules of the race, it's too bad they chose to break them, it cheapens the experience for those of you playing fair. If they wanted just an adventure and not a competition, they shouldn't have signed up for the race!
Enjoy your time on two wheels and those big American breakfasts, and keep the pedals turning!

Anonymous, there seems to be a fair amount of evidence that the riders in question cut the course. It is not "open your mouth for nothing." If your friends are not going to ride the whole course, they should call in and take themselves out of the race and just enjoy the adventure. It would be the honourable thing to do.

steve

P.S. It would also be moe credible on your part to put a name on your posts.

Italians realising....

Watching the SPOT, didn't look like thet turned around to do the 'correct section' to me.
They are only cheating themselves of the true challenge if they choose to ignore the rules.
Didn't sound too much like it was a 'mistake' either!
Don't think Al insulted anyone either.. just stated the obvious!!

hilarious

This is why I read these posts; too funny. Roadies are people too; just a different kind of people. hehe

Thanks for the entertainment and inspiration.

I just realized that my wife will give me the Tour Divide for Father's Day one year in the near distant future - if I make the suggestion. I would just have to promise to finish in no more than about 17 days.

Shut up please.

Alan, Steve, John and Paul (the 4 UK riders) all ride plenty of roadie stuff. In fact you should check out Paul's book about when he road the Tour du France....the day before the read Tour du France riders did the route.

If you think you could complete the Tour Divide in 17 days then you would have already had a go.

Go boys and loving the suffering
