Rick pulls out at Colter Bay Village

Hey this is Rick calling in from Colter Bay Village. I've decided that this is a good spot to pull out. It's taken me a lot longer than anticipated to complete the race and the next several days of the route gets me further away from the convenience of a stopping point. I'm going to ride my bike into Jackson and rent a car and drive to Salt Lake and have the bike shop there box it up and ship it home and I'll catch a plane back to Tallahassee.
I'm OK and the bike is still running great. I just need to get back home and get back to work. Good luck to all the racers still grinding it out. I'm truly amazed with Matt and the other leaders and how fast and long you can ride this course. Good luck to Deanna, you go girl! Good luck to Bruce and Michael who are a day behind me. I'll be tracking all of you when I get home. This is the old man of the race signing off.
Listen to the latest call from this racer here!

You are an inspiration to us.
You did an amazing job! Everyone at work thinks you're a machine for being able to do what you did. We miss you and are happy you're coming home safe! We're proud of you Dad!

What a great experience.
Its the right time and the right place to pull out. If you have the time before you drive to Salt Lake, when you leave Jackson, drive the scenic roads of Jackson Hole.
You're still our hero
It will be so nice to have you back in the pack on Saturday mornings. I really want to hear all the stories. Hoyet and I were talking about how absolutely worn out we were after doing the Ididaride...50 miles of flat offroad...and to think of the distance you were riding every day in the mountains, snow, hail and endless rain. Amazing, dude. See you soon!
You did amazing Rick! Every
You did amazing Rick! Every day I've been checking in numerous times to see what you and other racers have to say. It was always great to hear your voice! I'm looking forward to seeing you at the shop and hearing stories and seeing photos! I'm so proud of you! YOU TOTALLY ROCK IN MY BOOK!
Be safe in your travels back to Tally.

Surviver!
Rick,
We're all impressed that you survived all the issues you faced - snow, rain, hail, cold, mountain trails, muddy roads, knee issues, no food, etc, etc and kept going for over 1000 miles!
The first words out of my mouth when I found out that you were coming home was that I was sorry for your sake that you couldn't complete the race, but very glad (!!!!!!!) for our sake that your coming home and back to work. We've missed you - reading about you and hearing your voice was not quite the same as having you here every day.

Old man of the mountains
Rick,
Just catching up with things here in Phoenix before flying home and wanted to congratulate you on your ride - hats off. Thanks also for the support subsequently, and I survived the desert (though had it been here in Phoenix it might have been a different outcome - just walking across the road to eat at Ruby Tuesdays is a considerable effort).
Don't mention the trains.
Paul
