Hi it’s Erik Lobeck calling in.  I am still in Rawlins, I’m waiting for the bike shop to open because I cannot proceed without a new rear tire. So I am waiting around for them to open at 9:30 in the morning and then hopefully they can get me back on the road before to late.  And I don’t know if I will make it to steamboat tonight we will see what the day brings I don’t really know right now.  Anyway that’s it.  Ya I have a gash in my rear tire that I stitched together with duct tape and so on and so forth and I actually tried to sew it with dental……

This is Rick leaving Wise River.  I don't know what day it is but yesterday, another day of rain and hail.  It was OK coming up to Fleecer Ridge and then it started raining and hailing and I got up on the ridge and got into a snow squal.  Coming down it was very rainy and hailing, coldest day of the race yet.  Got down off of the mountain and the rain was relentless and the wind was very bad.  So, I was cold and wet, so, I decided to stay in Wise River.  So, I'll give you a report later on.  Thanks.

Hi this is Erik Lobeck calling in from Rawlins at about 10 at night. I got in about an hour ago. My goal was to get across the basin pretty much in a day and I am glad I did, it was hard work.  So now I am trying to re-charge my batteries.  Unfortunately I have a little tire issue I need to deal with, I have a rip in my tire so I had to stop every 10 miles to wrap duct tape around the rim and the tire to try to hold it together.  So basically what that spells out is the need for a bike shop, I kind of made it here on a wing and a prayer so I need a new rear tire. So that will probably slow me down a little bit in the morning.  Hopefully not too much, we’ll see.  Hopefully I can even find a bike shop that has a tire, at least something to get me to steamboat where I might be able to find something else. Anyway like I said that will probably slow me down a little in the morning. I had a good night camping last night in the foothills north of the basin. of course it rained so I got to start out my day with mud again.  Hasn’t been a day without mud yet so I just try to slog thru it but I am getting pretty weary of that.  Hopefully it will dry out a little bit in Colorado probably not on the trek to steamboat but maybe south of there.   Perhaps, I hope.  Anyway that’s it. OK. Bye.

Paul calls from Lima late

Hello, one more message from Paul here in Lima.  Just 2 things...firstly I forgot to say in my earlier message that we should say hello to Cricket.   Hope she's going well...hope she had a good day today and I'm sorry we couldn't...we didn't have the courage to come out with her.  We needed our day's rest...we feel a lot better for it but I hope she's done well and tell her we're going to keep riding so if she needs more company we're just always coming along.

Secondly, we've just seen Pete Basinger who apparently set off from Banff, he didn't say when, and who came over the pass today into Lima and said that the mud had dried an awful lot compared to how it had been yesterday.  He saw all our footprints and everything but could ride most of it, sat down for a bit and I think he rode most of it, over the pass anyway.  So if anybody is following, maybe things have improved a bit and maybe that will give you some encouragement.   We're hoping the same effect has happened on the road down south out of Lima and thereafter so we can actually do some cycling tomorrow.

So that's it for now...I've just realised that Lima where Paddington Bear might live is also just away from another famous English children's television character - Dillon - from the Magic Roundabout...and magic roundabout is something I feel I'm on at the moment.  We're all heading off early, me, Per, Stephen and Trevor, at least as far as Mack's Inn tomorrow, further if we can.  Bye
