Pete Basinger injured

Hey Folks,

I'm about to post up some audio from Jill Homer. She was descending Indiana Pass last night and came upon a couple of ambulances. Apparently, Pete was descending the pass and was struck head on by a truck! She managed to speak to him and he seemed to be in relatively good spirits. I have nothing other than this message and I will post it shortly. Since this happened last night some of you may have further information. Healing vibes and well wishes for Pete!

Racer update about:

Michael calls in from Rawlins, Wyoming, just near Interstate 80 to report that he's tired, but in the groove.  He's just finished a 100 mile day riding through the Great Divide Basin - rich on history, but lean on food and water.  Listen here for his latest update as he pushes through to Colorado some time today!

Hi it’s Erik Lobeck calling in from Torreon, which is on the Chaco alternate section just south of Cuba. On our way to Grants it is 5:44.  Had a good morning going over the last pretty much big hill, out of Abiquiu and now we are enjoying a road ride for a little wile which is probably a pretty nice break from the dirt. With some bikes loaded down with lots of water.  Umm.. What else can I say; we actually have enjoyed our first slight tail wind in a wile so that is good.  Anyway, so I will probably call in the next chance I get maybe from 100 miles down the road or so. All right, bye.

Hi, this is Alan. It's Tuesday 30th, 25 past 5. I'm in, well, I don't know where I'm in. A gas station 25miles south of Cuba. This morning I came over from 10 or so miles outside of Abiquiu where I camped the night with Leighton up in the hills. That's my favourite stretch so I wanted to camp up there. Most of the other guys stayed at the Inn in Abiquiu. I took a leisurely lunch at Brunos in Cuba. I'm thinking of writing a 'good food guide to the Tour Divide, and that'll be in it! So, today was really good, nice and dry trails.across the stretch from Abiquiu to Cuba. Didn't see a soul until about 10 miles short of the highway there started to be lots of hippies. It's the Rainbow Gathering and there were about 5 miles of hippies getting their soul (?feed?). Bit of a difference from yesterday. Yesterday was very muddy, very tough. Sylvia at Canyon Plaza saved us with the Snack Shack. And then more mud to El Rito. We had a bike wash at the Forest Service there and then plain sailing down to Abiquiu, where we ate well at the Inn. It's going well, feeling good. All major hills gone. So. Maybe three days left? If we're lucky. Anyway. Going well. Talk to you soon. Bye!
