Blaine Nester checking in from Pie Town.  A little bit late to hit the restaurant that was to be open til 4:30 turned out to be 3.  The nice lady from the Pioneer though, ran into her at the post office, she let me get some water and has a little bit of food she is going to feed me up here.  I'm going to keep heading south hopefully make Silver City tomorrow night and get ready for the last leg the next day.  So things are going well, little bit of a head wind today but yesterday was great, lots of pavement, crossed from Cuba to Grants.  Nice long day.  So hopefully a long one today, a couple more days, should be done.  Will call in at the end!

Hi this is John Fettis, calling in from Grants, New Mexico.

Just had a fairly straight forward run down the road alternative this morning, down the Chacoh route, and I've just re-stocked in Walmart ready for a long stretch without so much food and water. Heading out for Pie Town this afternoon.

The weather is pretty hot and humid, and there is quite a lot of cloud building up so I'm just hoping we're not going to be in for any more thunderstorms this afternoon - it looks like a possibility at the moment.

I've lost touch with the rest of the group that I was riding with here, but I guess we'll see one or two of them along the route to Pie Town this afternoon.

OK that's all bye for now, see ya.

Hello everybody. This is jay and this is truly the last call. I think Tracey called and said we’re…got in at about ten to midnight last night and of course without the stiff headwind and bitter rain and stuff, ah, it wouldn’t have been the same. We ended the race just like the rest of it…with some weather. Um, right now we’re doing the most difficult task of the whole ride and that’s the logistics of getting home. This big ole tandem bicycle and our two selves but we’re on the way…ah, I thanked a lot of people yesterday and ah, a few others came to mind that I sorta left out…I appreciate the bars and stems from Salsa, our cockpits were perfect. And uh, also Mike Curiak, for building us a bomber set of wheels. We never had to touch them at all. A lot of people questioned our parts choices for such a ride and…but everything held up great so anything you see on this bike is tandem worthy. Um…to everyone who thought these are divorce bikes, you guys are all crazy, um, you should give it a shot. It might make you a little closer than you think. And um, once again, just really appreciate it. Oh yeah, and WTB…the Nano Raptor, 2 sets, they held up great…and the saddles we sit on, WTB…kept our butts pretty happy. So uh, that’s it, the bike run is over and don’t have much more to say but we’re anxious to get home, and it was a great journey…(can’t interpret this last part)…ok. Have fun!

Hello this is Alan, it's weds 1st July, at 7.35. I'm in Grants, just been to the supermarket to stock up on supplies for the long stretch to Mimbres. We're going to be in Pie Town tonight hopefully, but too late for pie, so again no pie in Pietown. There's 5 of us now, me, Canon, Eric, Steve and Jo. John made a break for it just as we went into breakfast in Milan. Leighton and Blaine shot off into the night last night out of Cuba, but we've heard they're not that far ahead. Anyway it's getting hot now, so this is the nasty stretch down to Pietown. Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun! Anyway, talk to you later. Bye

Hey, Eric Bruntjen calling from Cuba, N.M. Been a pretty good day today. I spent the night in the desert outside of Abiquiu yesterday and rode back up to 10,000 feet today. New Mexico is tough riding — a lot of rocks, pretty technical. But it’s just a terrific state. It’s so beautiful, and the riding’s been a lot of fun — challenging but fun. On a technical note, right now I’m going to take an approved alternate. It’s the only alternate you can take in the race so I’m going to be on pavement to avoid some dangerous areas if there’s a storm between Cuba and Pie Town.
Something kind of interesting in the mountains today, there’s a rainbow gathering. It’s thick with hippies; they say there’s 2,000 of them up there, and I rode right through their camp. So for a little bit today I wasn’t the only funny-dressed, stinky guy in the woods today. So that was quite an experience, to ride through the hippies like that.
Other than that, I’ve been chasing ghosts all day, just tracking down these tire tracks that I see. It’s been fun but challenging. So tonight I’m going to be out in the desert. Tomorrow, Grants. And keep heading south.
I’m feeling pretty good. Bike’s hanging in there. I’m optimistic right now, but there’s a long ways to go before this thing ends.

Tracey called in to say they made it!

Good morning, this is T-Race, um, Jay, myself, and the Love Shack are now in Demming. We finished up at Antelope Wells last night at 10 til 12. Oh, it was a great, wild day, it was a…hard push to the finish there and just hurried up and tried to get it done. Of course we got stuck in nasty headwind and um, some rain but fortunately we saw Kurt and Maggie and they met us at the finish, and um, gave us a ride back up to Demming. Just want to say thanks to JayP for being an awesome captain and the best husband I could ever ask for. We had great times, great experiences. Also wanted to thank John…thanks for the Skins, they really helped the recovery, and um, Mike C., thanks for building these bomber wheels…you obviously know what they went through and they held up and did a great job. So uh, yeah, I guess this is it, and um, here’s to the king sized section of the candy isle…there’s so many great things out there that went down and hopefully we’ll have a little recap about the whole episode and we’re really happy to be done, and um, alright…til’ next time. Thanks everybody.
