Hello this is John Fettis, calling in from Deming this morning.

Just to let you know, made it to the border at Antelope Wells last night, that's Friday the 3rd July at 11:04pm, together with Alan Goldsmith and Cannon Shockley. It was nice to have a little reception party there with Cannon's Parents and Eric Bruntjen's family, and one or two others - a couple of the other racers who arrived there a bit earlier were still there - so we had a little get together and that was quite nice.

So anyway, just to say yeah, got there, and what an incredible journey it's been! Pretty damn tough!

Just chilling out in the hotel in Deming, then heading back up to Silver City today, just to prepare for travelling home.

I'll probably call in again a bit later on just with a few more thoughts and some final words, but thanks everybody for now and speak to you later.

Bye for now.

Hi it's John Fettis at the Beaverhead Creek Work Centre

just ridden in 100 miles from Pie Town during today. had a good stay over at pie town, got there quite late on but luckily the lady in the Pioneer Cafe stayed open late and provided us with a light meal and then we had a good night's accomodation in the toaster house. So an early start up to Beaverhead Creek then heading up to Nimbrays(?!) now.

Again, the clouds are rolling in, might get a few spots of rain, but it's not looking too bad.

Bye for now.

Hi this is John Fettis, calling in from Grants, New Mexico.

Just had a fairly straight forward run down the road alternative this morning, down the Chacoh route, and I've just re-stocked in Walmart ready for a long stretch without so much food and water. Heading out for Pie Town this afternoon.

The weather is pretty hot and humid, and there is quite a lot of cloud building up so I'm just hoping we're not going to be in for any more thunderstorms this afternoon - it looks like a possibility at the moment.

I've lost touch with the rest of the group that I was riding with here, but I guess we'll see one or two of them along the route to Pie Town this afternoon.

OK that's all bye for now, see ya.

Hi this is John Fettis calling in from Abiquiu.

It's been a couple of days since I've called in so just to give you a quick update.

Saturday the 27th I rode from Meer's junction just outside of Salida to Del Norte with Joe Meiser and Leighton White. So was a pretty long day, 140 miles, with some passes above 10,000feet. Anyway, we got to Del Norte and we regained the pelaton who had been in there since - I think we got in there at 8-30 - i think they had already been in there a few hours and were chilling out.

So we had another tough day the following day. Tough for us because of the fairly long day the day before. We went through Platoroux, had some good food in there, and pushed on till quite late at night with a bivvy out on Brassle's Ridge. Quite a beautiful spot.

Riding in New Mexico has been quite nice again, and today I even enjoyed riding the bike again after some pretty heavy fatigue the last few days. We've still been encountering quite a bit of mud on the trails with the Thunderstorms and late rains we've been having here and that's meant all of us have been having to push the bikes through mud, and clean them off several times a day - makes it pretty hard work, but anyway the riding has still been good.

Today, we made Abiquiu, the full pelaton of 8 made it. We all had dinner together, then Leighton and Alan Goldsmith headed up on to the hill, out towards Cuba. The other 6 of us are having a last night of comfort before making the final push, with 600 miles to the border there aren't going to be any more comfort stops on this trip, it's just going to be all out really. I expect the pelaton will... (call cuts short)

Hi it's John Fettis, here in Salida.

We're having a late evening ride up Martial Pass, so I guess it's going to get dark up there pretty soon. I'm here with Leighton White and Joe Meiser, and we need to make up a little bit of ground so we're heading up there late on.

Alright, bye for now.

Hi this is John Fettis, calling in from Hartsel, Colorado.

Had to have another rest day yesterday, just made it up to Breckon Ridge and had a bit of an early finish. Trying to get the legs rested up. Feeling a bit better today, going to make it through to Salida at least this afternoon.

Just bumped into Joe again, after riding most of the last couple of days mostly together so hopefully we'll ride this afternoon later on and see how it goes.

OK, bye for now.

John Fettis calls in from Steamboat

Racer update about:

Hi this is John Fettis, calling in from Steamboat.

Quite an eventful couple of days. Day before yesterday we set off from Pinedale at about 5am, and we had a pretty good tail wind so quick lunch stop at Atlantic City, and decided to make best use of the tail wind, kept it rolling across the basin. Didn't quite make it to Rawlins, made about 207 miles that night. Stopped just short of Rawlins, about 15 miles outside of town. Just crashed there.

However, paid the price for that. Did a bit too much of an effort there and ended up with some pretty sore legs just around the knee area. Yesterday was a bit of a wipe out and the pelaton have passed me again now. I'm just chilling out in Steamboat for a couple of hours, getting the bike fixed and getting some decent food in. Gonna roll out and hopefully get to Radium tonight, and rejoin up with the guys again there. So all good fun. Yesterday not so good - bit of a low point really. But still going alright.

Bye for now, See ya!

Hi this is John Fettis, calling in from Lava Mountain Lodge.

We had a bit of a rough day today with some mud over the Togwotee pass, and then snow and mud again after some heavy rainfall on the Brooks Lake road.

So we're having a cabin here at Lava Mountain Lodge and then we're heading out to Pinedale tomorrow. So it's been kind of office hours cycling so far, but hopefully we'll be getting some more hours in on the days to come.

Bye for now.
